Intel Extreme Masters returns to South Korea this December for its last event of 2016 but also first official WCS event of 2017. A total of 16 players will compete for WCS points and a share of the US$35,000 prize pool.
Four players from WCS Korea received direct invitations to the event based on their results at the Global Finals at BlizzCon: ByuN, Dark, Stats and Zest. Joining them will be 12 players who secured their slots through the online qualifiers that took place on the Korean servers over the past few days.
Many players partook in the qualifiers, multiple of them being well known in the professional scene. However, only four players per qualifier could secure their tickets to Gyeonggi. After several hard fought matches, the following players proved to be better than the rest of the competition:
Gyeonggi will see some very familiar faces coming back for another IEM event. Among them, three-time IEM champion, herO, who took first place at IEM Singapore and Sao Paulo in season 8, as well as IEM San Jose in season 9. We also saw him compete at the IEM World Championship in seasons 8 and 9, as well as IEM Taipei in season 9 and IEM Shenzhen in season 10.
We will welcome two more former IEM champions at the event: Classic, the winner of IEM Shenzhen in season 10, and Innovation who took first place at IEM gamescom in the same season.
The entire StarCraft II lineup for Gyeonggi is now complete and we cannot wait to kick off the first WCS 2017 event with such a stacked competition. The coming IEM will be every professional StarCraft's fan dream as the best players in the world will face each other this December.
Tickets to IEM Gyeonggi are available here.
